In the course of 11 seconds, the Canucks took a stranglehold on the Stanley Cup Final. It was a surprise to see Burrows score so quickly, but it’s hard to call the result of game 2 a surprise. Despite Boston scoring a pair of goals in the second period (one of them on the power play!), you felt like Vancouver had the edge all night. Their speed simply kept dominating the Bruins defense, and Tim Thomas was the only reason Boston made it to Overtime.
If Boston can’t use the last change and home ice to their advantage on Monday, it won’t be long before we have a new Stanley Cup champion.
In heartwarming news, Manny Malhotra took the ice last night in game 2, and was given a heartfelt (and well deserved) reception from Vancouver fans. He took the time after the game to respond in kind. So glad for Manny that he’s gotten the chance to play after his injury, and so proud of the former Jacket at how he’s worked to come back.
According to the Dispatch, the Jackets may be shaking up their scouting staff soon.
Over in Winnipeg, reports are in that Rick Dudley will not be retained as the new team’s GM, and they’ve met their goal of 13,000 paid season ticket holders (plus another 8,000 on a waiting list) within 20 minutes of tickets going on sale to the public. If True North is going to hold to their promise to reveal the team’s name after selling their season ticket goal, we should see an announcement in the next day or two.
