Shrapnel – 6/28/12

A late evening Shrapnel? Well, if you insist…

The Blue Jackets‘ Hockey School is taking registrations, and that adult class in early August looks tempting…

Meanwhile, the NHL and NHLPA agreed to set a theoretical cap for the 2012 season, and will continue negotiations over the next few weeks.

Several clubs wasted no time spending their new cap space, with Jonathan Quick, Tuukka Rask, Dennis Wideman, and Hal Gill all getting new contracts – but perhaps the biggest news on that front is Sidney Crosby is on the verge of a deal that will keep him in Pittsburgh for the rest of his career.

The Quick and Rask contracts are interesting if you’re watching the goalie market, as they could help set the market for both Cory Schneider and Carey Price.

Edit: Schneider now has a deal for three years, $12 million. Will Roberto Luongo be getting a new address?

Over at Icethetics, there’s a new look coming for the Syracuse Crunch, while the guys at Backhand Shelf scored a sweet vintage Nordiques jacket.

The guys at BS also have some draft day shenanigans, a look at Justin Peters, who might just be the next backup to make a big impact, and a fantastic Quiet Room look at Pavel Bure’s knees.

Puck Rakers takes a look at the pre-free agency roster and Development Camp, and Puck Daddy talks to Islanders #4 pick Griffin Reinhart.

Over at Burnside Carbine, Gris looks at Mr. Bob and tries to figure out a good nickname for Ryan Murray.

At DBJ+, a special guest wonders if Jack Johnson could be the player who transforms Columbus, Tom makes a plea for More Vinning, and Gallos considers Steve Mason and spring football.

At Union Blue, Jas takes a look at the prospects acquired in the 2012 draft, and last but not least, we’re now just one month away from the Central Division Tweetup…
