Shrapnel – 4/15/12

OK, so today’s a little more of an afternoon than morning post, but it’s Sunday. This is a good day for that sort of thing.

Mayhem ensued through much of yesterday’s playoff action, with a bloody matchup between the Rangers and Sens, Mike Smith getting trucked, a massive brawl between the Blues and Sharks, and another stellar performance by Tim Thomas and Braden Holtby leading to double OT, where Nicklas Backstrom evened the series just in time to go back to DC.

Over at Backhand Shelf, Chris Lund looks at the mayhem and sees an indictment of the league, while Puck Daddy is playing “Guess the suspensions”.

Over at DBJ, they’ve got an “Ex-CBJ player scorecard“, though it doesn’t look like it’s been updated for some of the action last night between Phoenix and Chicago.

At the Dispatch, Portzline writes about the team looking for an offseason hat trick, including banging the drum on Cory Schneider. Along the same lines, Michael Arace is calling out the coaching search. Though he’s saying this is a “can’t miss” situation, I’m not sure if there’s really a better candidate out their than Todd Richards for this club. Ron Wilson doesn’t seem like the right fit for Columbus, nor does Brent Sutter. Are there really other serious candidates?

Turning back to the voice of the fans, Greg looks at Scott Howson’s crossroads at Full Mental Jackets, while Gallos has begun a season recap over at DBJ. Meanwhile the “F.A.N.S.” group has started a blog of their own, and are calling for submissions from season ticket holders and PSL owners who have chosen not to renew so they can publish them.

In all honesty, I understand the frustrations, particularly for people who have invested a lot of money and energy into supporting the team, but I still don’t find the public ridicule method to be a good one. That’s just me, though.

Meanwhile, Nashville has an early lead on Detroit in game 3 of their series thanks to Shea Weber, Pittsburgh and Philly will go later this afternoon, game 2 of Devils / Panthers is in prime time, and the Kings host the Canucks in LA tonight for the night owls.

Have a great afternoon!
