Shrapnel – 2/27/12

In what may be considered “one for the road” for several players, here’s your Deadline Day Shrapnel.

At CTF, they’re confused about how the newly acquired Jack Johnson fits into the lineup, while Gallos is thinking about accountability over at DBJ.

Over at Backhand Shelf, Ms. Conduct hopes that Marty Brodeur will know when to walk away, and Chris Lund looks at the Hurricanes and finds them the worst shootout team ever.

Not surprisingly, the Rick Nash saga is the potential trade that has the most interest around the internets. Rumor has it that the Rangers are out, but the posturing around these type of deals makes it hard to say if they are really done, or just looking to see if Howson might flinch. Meanwhile, Martini Hockey sees the beginning of an end, Crimespree Hockey takes a look at just what the future might look like, and Michael Arace over at the Dispatch thinks it’s not if, but when.

Some are questioning Scott Howson for missing out on Ben Bishop after the goaltender was dealt to Ottawa, but it’s worth pointing out that A) the Blues may not have wanted to deal inside the division, B) the team may need to move contracts before taking more on and C) potential or not, going for a goalie with 0 NHL experience just sounds like a repeat of the Steve Mason roulette.

At Heart of a Jacket, Alison has a few guests come in to talk about the Jackets’ wonderful work on the Black Tie, Blue Jackets fundraiser for those fighting cancer. It’s worth remembering that for every frustrating game on the ice, the organization gives back in amazing ways to this city.

Finally, you may remember the Jackets did play a game yesterday afternoon. Check out DBJ, Puck-Rakers, and our own take for the recaps.
