Shrapnel – 2/17 Edition

Civil_war_cannon_medium

In this edition of Shrapnel: Olympics, Olympics and more Olympics. Plus more!

Lets do this.

Puck-rakers:

Mathieu Roy did the waivers thing again. Sure enough, he’ll be back.

Rick Nash is already off to a good start. He added 2 assists in Canada’s demolishing of Norway. Former Jacket Ole Kristian Tollefsen didn’t play due to a family illness. He has been cleared to join the team for the remainder of the tournament however.

Olympic break or not, the online chat lives on.

BlueJackets XTRA:

The Jackets will very likely be sellers by the trade deadline. The top 3 names being discussed are those of Torres, Jurcina, and Modin.

Who are you rooting for in the Olympics? Is it easy to cheer for the Canadian team because of Nash? Is it easier to cheer for the Americans because its our national team? The way I see it, cheer for your nation, and hope the individual players on other teams do well.

Olympic Hockey:

Fedor Tyutin had an assist in Russia’s 8-2 pounding of Latvia.

US-Switzerland Box Score.

Canada-Norway Box Score. Looks like something out of NHL 10.

The US Women’s team beat Russia 13-0. No big deal…

In case you missed it, back on the 13th, Canada’s women’s team beat Slovakia………18-0. What? There were so many goal scorers, they had to overlap the pictures of them to fit everyone onto the box score.

On today’s schedule:

Fredrik Modin and Sammy Pahlsson take the ice against Germany at 4:30.

Jan Hejda faces off with Milan Jurcina when the Czech Republic takes on Slovakia at 9:00

Yahoo! Sports:

G Ryan Miller had a run-in with the IOC regarding the designs on his helmet.

Quote of the day:

“We kept on talking in between periods to shoot, get more shots. Sid made a nice pass. I wanted to shoot the whole way, but the goalie had the angle. The last second, I just saw Iginla coming in and I slid it over.”

– Rick Nash on Canada’s mentality during their games. They finished with 42 shots against Norway.
