Shrapnel – 12/11/11

It’s now 14 days to Christmas. And I still need to shop for a bunch of people….

Andy Sutton has plenty of time to work on his list – the Oilers forward received an 8 game suspension for his hit on Alexei Ponikarovsky, finally giving us a suspension that matches the Wiz Shanaban. Interestingly, Puck Daddy thinks he got off light, and I find myself agreeing. This was not only a “repeat offender”, but the first repeat offender with both suspensions under Shanahan’s tenure. He had a chance to really send a message, and he basically gave Sutton a holiday vacation instead.

We’ve got reactions on last night’s game from DBJ, Puck-Rakers, our opposite numbers at SCC, and Bluejackets.com

Something interesting for you – check out Ravings of a Rink Rebel. On the down side, she’s a Caps fan. (I kid, I kid…) On the HUGE PLUS side, she’s living in Chicago and has decided to blog about the Express! Check out her recap from Friday’s game featuring tasty Allen York shootout action.

As mentioned yesterday, the Jackets have extended their Fox Sports deal (and I’m sure it’s a total coincidence the President of Fox Sports Ohio was able to stop by and drop the puck last night), and the Jackets’ Notebook from the Dispatch has a bit more on the Derek Dorsett injury, but we’re still waiting on official word after he goes for evaluation later today.

Over at Backhand Shelf they’re talking about the Bottom Four, but Nikita Nikitin is getting some positive attention. They also checked in on the Battle of Alberta, are unshocked that Ville Leino is struggling under his new deal, and finally Puck Daddy looks at how NHL teams are being very cagey about concussions. Is it time to revisit injury disclosure rules in the next CBA?
