Shrapnel – 11/3/11

After a long stretch of days off, we’ve got another gameday in front of us! Let’s get you ready.

On the Jackets’ front, DBJ takes us to a very Movember practice.

Over at Icethetics, fan designer Jacob Barrette (who put together the concept that eventually became the Senators new third jersey) has a nice idea for the Jets.

Over at Carry The Flag, the coach goes to the whiteboard to give you an in depth breakdown of the Jackets PK (and the ways to improve it).

Bad news for Carolina’s Jussi Jokinen – he’ll miss another 3-4 weeks following a leg injury.

Over at 10TV, Rob Kunz sees the next few weeks as critical to the Jackets’ future, but also finds quite a few reasons for a positive outlook.

Over at Backhand Shelf, Bourne has more Fransie awards, looks at a surprising goaltending trend, a history of cup droughts, talks a bit about Alex Ovechkin and team dynamics, Rob shows us a REAL cup hangover, and Jo gives us a look at the many major injuries to Eric Lindros, including a scary night in Nashville. (Warning: Pictures of graphic medical procedures, including an intubated chest. May not be safe for work or sensitive readers.)

On the CBJ Eternal Optimist blog, John has an idea for #PracFest. Honestly, I think it’s a great idea to get the fans together and show support for our team after getting through such a wretched October – he’s looking at Monday, November 14th. Hope to see you there.

Over at Pro Hockey Talk, there’s a look at the surprising start for Mike Smith, Joffrey Lupul turning into an NHL star, Brendan Shanahan explaining both recent suspensions and some non-calls, NBC Sports will carry college hockey this season (we’ll get some good looks at CBJ Prospect T.J. Tynan and the fighting Irish), Joe Thornton admits he probably shouldn’t have said what he said, and Max Pacioretty is powered by Bison.

Mr. Martini would like everyone to calm down. And for the record, like all Top Gear fans, the words “Honey Badger” fill me with fear.

At the Dispatch, Portzline is looking at the problems in production for Antoine Vermette, Arniel experimenting with the speed of his team to help counter the Leafs, and confirmation that Carter is out at least through the weekend, perhaps longer.

Speaking of the Dispatch, Jeff Little looks at the anatomy of a rumor, and the failure cascade triggered by Portzline’s 3am Puck-Rakers post.

Over at Puck Daddy, they’re looking at suggestions for the NHL’s Thanksgiving Day Parade float, encouraging you to protect your beverage, talking to Brian Burke about his concerns over the current state of concussion research, spotlighting some Fake Henrik Zetterberg, talking about the Kingsproblems with Dustin Penner, and more examination of the Shanaban explanations, or lack thereof.

After a long run of injuries, Minnesota’s Josh Harding seems to finally have his career on track.

Over at Bluejackets.com, there’s talk of the team getting healthier, a sit down with Ryan Johansen after he was told he’d be staying in Columbus, Vinny Prospal meeting and greeting down at Riverside Hospital, and a pinup poster of the 2011-2012 ice crew.

We’ll be back for more as the Jackets get ready to take on the Leafs tonight!
