Shrapnel – 11/27/11

As the long holiday weekend in the US draws to a close, the NHL just keeps rolling, though last night’s action came at a price for several teams.

Kris Letang had his face remodeled but came back to score the GWG in overtime, Patrick Eaves had a scary moment after being struck in the head by a puck, the Oilers will be without Taylor Hall after he left the game with a shoulder injury, and the Dallas Stars, already suffering more than a few injuries, lost starting netminder Kari Lehtonen after a leg injury.

For the Jackets, oddly enough, there may be some good injury news: Kristian Huselius hopes to join the team for their Western Canada road trip, and might return to the lineup in the next week, while Steve Mason appears ready to play, but understands that he is taking a back seat to Curtis Sanford right now.

The Capitals have dropped another game – this time a 5-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres. Over at PHT, they take a very Claude Noel-ian approach and wonder if the perennial SE champs have lost their joy.

A few reactions to Friday Night’s victory over those same Sabres that we didn’t catch yesterday: LTL gets out his dancin’ shoes, Gallos is reflective, Jeff enjoys the Magnificent Silence, and Mr. Dark Blue Jacket is back from vacation and finds himself in a very strange new world.

Zach Parise is pretty hot under the collar after the war room wiped out a tying goal in the dying seconds of the Devils / Islanders game yesterday. I understand his passion, but he pretty clearly appears to be kicking the puck to me.

A hat tip to Lori Schmidt, who found this feature on former Jackets netminder Dan LaCosta, now back to school and tending net at the University of New Brunswick.

Finally, Puck Daddy did their quarterly NHL awards, and sadly the only Jacket mentioned is getting an anti-award…
