Shrapnel – 10/27/11

Welcome back, my friends, to the show that never ends!

With the Jackets in Buffalo today to take on the Sabres, a reminder that David Savard is expected to be recalled after getting some game action with the Falcons last night, while fellow rookie blueliner John Moore works on keeping things simple and building his confidence.

In news of arena purchases, it looks like things are moving forward in Edmonton, with the city approving a deal to build a new facility by 2015.

A hearty “WELCOME BACK!” to one of the original CBJ bloggers, Army of The Ohio, who has returned after a two year hiatus!

Speaking of new (or good as new) arenas, the media got a look at the revamped Madison Square Garden yesterday. Work is still going on – and will continue through the next two years – but it’s looking pretty fantastic so far. Just don’t step on the logo…aka the locker room floor.

Interestingly, Steve Mason spends some time talking about not letting things get to him, including an explanation about why he stepped away from his twitter account, while Portzline continues to boggle a bit at the team’s transformation on Tuesday night.

The Goalie Guild has a feature on Jonas Hiller’s exceptional Movember mask. You really, really need to check this out. I dare say it hits level of manliness that might actually be prohibited under California law.

Over at Heart of a Jacket, Alison loves everybody!

Meanwhile, the Senators have returned promising rookie Mika Zibanejad to Djurgarden of the Swedish Elite Leauge, while the guys at Copper & Blue argue that Ryan Nugent-Hopkins should be the next to pack his bags, despite his hot start.

At DBJ, Gallos looks at Tuesday night’s attendance (and the community reaction on Wednesday), and says there’s no such thing as bad publicity.

The guys at Puck Daddy looked at the NHL’s other big goalie controversy, a Legion of Doom reunion for the Winter Classic Alumni game, fighting and the visor debate, and it looks like the NHL was pretty deep into the operation of the Dallas Stars.

You haven’t forgotten it’s Game Day, but just in case Rob has a bunch of good tidbits for you at Bluejackets.com to help get you ready.

Good news for the Kings: Drew Doughty was cleared for contact and wants to play tonight. Meanwhile, PHT takes a look at other problems in Vancouver, Montreal making moves that defy explanation, and Matt Duchene feeling a bit of a slump.

Over at TMM, Jeff Little enjoys a moment of Discovery! No, I have no idea what discovery factorial is. Yes, I just made a math joke on a hockey blog.

It looks like the 2012 NHL draft will be held right down I-70 in Pittsburgh this summer. Start planning the road trip?

Finally, over at Backhand Shelf, they think Nikolai Khabibulin deserves some Masterson votes, more of the worst jerseys ever, breaking down three major types of shootout moves, and a fan who decided to wear a Rangers jersey to the World Series.
