In this edition of Shrapnel: A new drawing from Mookie, a look at the shot of Milan Jurcina, a serious injury from last night, plus the Fight of the night, and more!

And away we go!

Puck-rakers:

The cartoonist on Michael Arace’s staff came up with this little number. He at least could’ve thrown in something about wishing it was last season, the Calder, and his smoking hot girlfriend.

BlueJackets XTRA:

Anyone see Milan Jurcina shoot last night? I swear the guy has a cannon (no pun intended) attached to his stick. Putting it into perspective: Mason calls his shot “absolutely scary.” Clarkie, speaking from their Washington days, can’t count how many times Jurcina has broken a teammate’s stick. He doesn’t snap his own sticks, he snaps yours.

A lot of the time we rag on Freddie Mo for being injured, but when he’s playing, he’s a player. He’s totally selfless and does what it takes to help the team win. Enough good things can’t be said about his ethic and character.

Oh the life of an NHL head coach. Who knew the turn around was so bad? Yikes.

Yahoo! Sports:

Read this feel good story. The ESNJ is doing a great thing to help kids with disabilities. The near-1400 mile trip is going to go a long way to help gain awareness for what they do.

Jack Hillen, an Islanders defenseman was sent to the hospital last night after catching an Alex Ovechkin shot with his face. There’s no update as of right now, but hopefully he’ll be fine.

Patrice Cormier has been suspended for the rest of the year, and what does he do? He takes a page out of just about any pro athlete’s book, and is going to appeal the suspension. Good luck, kid.

Check out these Frozen Moments from games up through last night.

The history of a legend, and the special honor named after him.

Quote of the day:

“I’d never heard of it until I’d had quite a few of them”

Brendan Shanahan, speaking about the Gordie Howe hat trick.

Fight of the night:

Ducks RW Mike Brown v. Thrashers RW Chris Thorburn*

*Fight wins “Fight of the night” by default for being the only scrap from last night’s action.
