Shrapnel – 1/19/11

I wish I had a more consistent schedule for these things with my life right now, but hey, a game day is as good as any.

The Dispatch has an interesting interview with former head coach Scott Arniel, who is still coping with the loss of his job.

At Carry The Flag, Dan looks at the different look of the team and they’ve got a new weekly prospect feature.

Around the NHL, a Bruins fan decided to class things up in Tampa Bay, the Capitals are giving themselves awards, and Brian Elliott got a nice little payday.

Closer to home, Rob has some great quotes from Todd Richards after yesterday’s practice, a look at meeting the Predators again, and a few post-victory thoughts from Martini Hockey, DBJ, LTL, and TMM.

The NHL has also named Daniel Alfredsson and Zdeno Chara the captains for next weekend’s all star game. One isn’t terribly surprising, but the other is a bit of a letdown. Since Dion Phaneuf was already voted in as a starter, it seemed like a no-brainer to honor the rivalry between the two Ontario teams. Not that Chara is a bad choice, but I think it could have been something to add a little “spark” to the whole event.

Puck Rakers features some discussion of helmets in warmups after the Taylor Hall injury, Gallos finds the calls to follow the Oilers‘ recent path misleading, LTL has a draft watch update, and Jeff looks at Keeping Focus as the Jackets determine their next steps.
