Shrapnel – 1/12 Edition

On the road again.

We all know, in years past, that playing on the road hasn’t been fun for the Jackets. This year is no different, but the last couple games away from Nationwide have given us a reason to believe. Tonight we’re in St. Louis. Regardless of records, they always play us tough.

Its not over yet, and both of these teams have something to play for. How about we leave the STL with another win and push this streak to 4!

Lets Go Jack-ets!!!

And away we go!

Puck-rakers:

Mathieu Garon is named the third star of the week for his outstanding play in the last few games. Going 3-0 with a 1.46 GAA is nothing short of dominant. Congrats, Gar!

BlueJackets XTRA:

Michael Arace has added a cartoonist to his staff. He’s already pumped out a couple drawings for everyone’s entertainment. The newest one is downright hysterical.

Hitch and the staff held a meeting recently with our top line to tell them to stick together. If this tactic works, I see Rick Nash coming out of his slump, R.J. Umberger can redirect some pucks in front of the net, and it will give Kristian Huselius a chance to stay hot; which, lets be honest, would be a great change of pace.

If you haven’t heard, the arena in which Derek Dorsett learned how to skate and play hockey burned down last week. A staple of his childhood, Exhibition Stadium was a community gathering place for all sorts of occasions. Thankfully, no one was killed or injured. Downtown at the R-Bar, they are taking donations for Derek’s hometown of Kindersley, Saskatchewan where the stadium once stood.

Yahoo! Sports:

I really thought hockey was going to be the purest of sports these days. You can’t listen to anything about the NFL, NBA, MLB or even the MLS without hearing something negative. The NHL has finally succumbed to such negative news. Alex Burrows of the Vancouver Canucks is claiming that a referee went out of his way to “get back at” him for embellishing hit he received last month.

League standings through Monday night. Just 8 points from that much desired playoff spot. I can smell it.

February could be our month. Look at all those home games. If we’re back in the thick of things come the end of this month, February is going to be huge.

NHL.com:

State of the division.

Phoenix d-man Ed Jovanovski has been suspended for elbowing Islander John Tavares. Takes a big man to bully a rookie like that. Way to go, douche. I like that the CBA has a “repeat offender” clause to punish those players decide to take matters into their own hands.

Quote of the day:

“We’re grinding it with really good teams now. We’re more than keeping pace. We’re more than holding our own. Rather than look for space, we’re fighting for space. And we’re creating more scoring chances than ever because of it.”

– Ken Hitchcock, in regards to the team’s play in the last three games.
