Seth Jones, the biggest free agent of the 2016 offseason for the Columbus Blue Jackets, has signed his contract extension.
Seth Jones’ extension is for six years, $32.4 million, which carries with it a $5.4M AAV against the cap. Per multiple sources, it also includes a limited no-trade clause during the years in which Jones would be an unrestricted free agent.
Jones, brought to Columbus in exchange for Ryan Johansen, registered 2-18-20 in 41 games for the Jackets last season.
Give credit to the Blue Jackets’ front office: this is an OUTSTANDING deal for the team. Rumors had been circulating that Jones could command more, especially as he was seeking a long term deal. Just this morning, Darren Dreger had mentioned that Jones could get $7M AAV. By coming in far under that number, Jarmo has squarely won this deal.
Also being reported, the Jackets have signed Pierre-Luc Dubois to an entry level contract.
More to come on this developing story.
