Scoring Chances: STL @ CBJ 11/27/11

If you guessed that last night’s game was a low-chance affair to go with the low scoring, you’d be right.

If you guessed that things were pretty even, again, you’d be right.

If you guessed that the Jackets had their best chances on the power play and failed to convert….well, dammit, you’re right again.

Once again, this was a very winnable game, but the Jackets had a slim margin of error against a team that doesn’t allow many good opportunities (though to their credit, they also kept St. Louis’ opportunities very low.)

Best E/S Forward: Derek Dorsett (+2)

Worst E/S Forward: Vinny Prospal (-6)

Best E/S D-man: Grant Clitsome / John Moore (+1)

Worst E/S D-man: James Wisniewski (-4)

A few things jump out from these reports.

  • Arniel was leaning hard on the top line. Possibly too hard. You wonder if some of the St. Louis chances at E/S might have been avoided, or more chances for the Jackets generated, by giving the 2nd line a bit more ice time at E/S and the power play.
  • Derek Dorsett may have been the best player on the ice last night for the Jackets (that wasn’t named Curtis Sanford)
  • The Cody Bass over Derick Brassard lineup decision makes less and less sense. In fact, the entire fourth line could have taken the night off and I’m not sure anyone would have noticed.
  • Rick Nash hits a somewhat unfortunate milestone – he gave up his 100th ES scoring chance to the opposition this season. (Now, the top line generally made up for their E/S weakenesses on the PP, but still.)

Head To Head:

Some of the H2H results are a bit weird because of Hitch actively shuffling his lines during the game, but you get the general idea – including the fact that the top line really needs to be kept away from David Backes!
