SBN Reacts: Should COVID keep fans away?

This is SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NHL. Each week, SB Nation sends out questions to the most plugged in Columbus Blue Jackets fans, and fans across the country. Sign up here to join Reacts.

The 2021 season has been far from smooth, both for the Columbus Blue Jackets and the rest of the league.

The biggest issue facing Columbus and every other team in the NHL is clearly problems surrounding COVID-19. Teams around the league have had to reschedule games and deal with players missing after testing positive. However, even with that less than one-quarter of fans around the country think the NHL needs a league-wide pause to the season.

With the news that a 10% capacity of fans would be allowed in Nationwide Arena beginning on March 2, how do you feel about the team taking this step? Do you think it’s safe? Would you attend a game this season if given the chance, or will you stay away until we’re past this pandemic?

Is it a good idea for the Blue Jackets to allow fans in the arena?

Yes. I think the rules are responsible and safe. 82
No. It’s still too soon. 22
Mixed feelings (explain in the comments) 12

If given the chance, would you attend a game this season?

Yes, I’m there 60
Maybe. Depends on the vaccination schedule, adherence to rules, my family’s health, etc. 28
No, not under any circumstances 24

In the latest SB Nation Reacts survey, 60 percent of Blue Jackets fans said they are confident the team is headed in the right direction. That’s down from 78 percent last week and 94 percent to start the year.

Despite the up and down nature of the Blue Jackets’ season, only 22 percent of Blue Jackets fans said they are concerned about the team’s depth. This surprises me, since I feel like there are parts of the pipeline that seem sparse, especially defense and center. Or, if you voted “not concerned,” is it because the roster is full of “depth” players, and the bigger concern is lack of elite talent?
