Roster Moves: Sanford Up, York Down

When Scott Howson said yesterday that Curtis Sanford was close to returning from his groin injury, he wasn’t kidding – the Blue Jackets have announced that Sanford has been activated off IR as of this morning, with netminder Allen York sent back down to the Springfield Falcons.

While I believe Scott Howson when he says that the team is still pursuing other options in goal, the return of Sanford is a nice bit of veteran experience, and could provide an opportunity to give Steve Mason a break in the near future, perhaps on the 21st against Calgary.

This is also a good move for Allen York, allowing him to return to Springfield and get a chance at some starts there, but it does bring up the question of how the Falcons’ goaltending situation will be adjusted. With Dan Taylor, Manny Legace, and York all looking for ice time, it seems quite possible that Legace could be released or sent to help mentor Paul Dainton in the ECHL.
