Goal Recap

Gabriel Bourque put the San Antonio Rampage on the board 7:22 into the first period. He was left alone in front of the net and was able to pound a rebound home past Forsberg. Before the goal, Bourque and Brendan Ranford had to great goal attempts which Forsberg stopped. The Monsters needed to give Forsberg some help.

With under five minutes to play in the first period, Rocco Grimaldi extended the Rampage’s lead to two. Colin Smith passed to Grimaldi who fired it from the right circle.

With six and a half minutes left in the second period, Marc-Andre Bergeron gave the Monsters their much-needed first goal of the game. The Monsters were within one of the Rampage, 2-1.

Three minutes later, Reid Petryk fed the puck to Alex Belzile who fired it into the net behind Forsberg.

With nine seconds left in the second, Joe Pendenza was in the right place at the right time to give the Monsters their second goal of the game. Sonny Milano had a no look spin pass from the right boards to Pendenza who was unattended in front of the net. Pendenza popped it in to put the Monsters within one of the Rampage, 3-2.

With four minutes left in the third period, Colin Smith fired a shot from below the right circle to extend the Rampage’s lead to 4-2.

Two minutes later, Alex Petan scored to give the Monsters some hope at winning the game. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to give the Monsters the win.

But Wait! There’s More

Quick Thoughts

  • Day Light Savings time must have messed with the Monsters because they didn’t wake up until the second period. They really didn’t get their legs beneath them until the final two minutes of the game after Alex Petan scored.
  • Sonny Milano was trying his hardest to turn plays into goals. You can tell he’s growing with each passing game.
  • Zac Dalpe took a penalty in the third to prevent a score from happening. In theory, this was a great play. Unfortunately, the penalty kill unit didn’t hold up their end of the bargain and the Rampage scored.
  • Brett Gallant is always a pleasant surprise. In the third period, Gallant stepped out of the penalty box and barrelled towards the net in hopes of scoring. Unfortunately, Gallant’s accuracy was a hair off and the puck dinged off the post. /
