The Manitoba Moose kicked the scoring off 2:26 into the game.
Charles-David Beaudoin passed the puck to Peter Stoykewych who was posted at the blue line. He skated forward a bit before firing off a shot from between the blue line and the left faceoff circle. Mike Sgarbossa got a piece of the puck before it flew into the net past Jeff Zatkoff’s glove.
The Cleveland Monsters tied the game at one almost four minutes later.
Terry Broadhurst took off down the ice and fired the puck. Jamie Phillips stopped the shot with his blocker. Quick thinking T.Broadhurst scooped up his own rebound and bounced the puck off of Phillips’ leg and into the net.
Manitoba took the 2—1 lead over the Monsters with 4:07 seconds left in the second period.
Michael Spacek fell to his knees and fired off a shot from below the left faceoff circle into the net.
A minute and a half later, Alex Broadhurst broke away from the pack and fired off a backhanded shot past Phillips’ glove to tie the game at two.
As hard as the two teams tried, no goal was scored in the third period.
They headed to overtime where Zac Dalpe shut things down 32 seconds into extra play.

Quick Thoughts
- The line of Nathan Gerbe, Justin Scott, and Miles Koules were full of fire, feist, and speed. I’ve never seen a line try to score as hard as they did.
- The Moose must know the talent Koules possesses because they were all over him tonight. He was constantly getting double and tripled team.
- Phillips’ was able to guess almost every move the Monsters made tonight. Especially when it came to Carter Camper. I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be to constantly be denied when you have great looks on net.
- Jordan Schroeder had a bit of a rough time passing and receiving passes while on the power play this afternoon. He hasn’t quite adjusted to the new power play unit yet. Just imagine how great the second unit will be once Schroeder adjusts.
- In the first period, Jeff Zatkoff took a nasty hit from Mason Appleton which caused him to leave the game. Matiss Kivlenieks stepped up to the call. For coming in off the bench and not playing in a game for awhile, He was very nimble and lively today. /
“During the All-Star break he went down and visited Manny Legace for four or five days. Manny has been here working with him. I just think also having Zatkoff around him. Just different things. He’s coming into his own. We knew he was a talented kid. It’s a big step from the USHL. We’ve lived through some of his growing pains and he’s not out of the dark yet. There’s a lot of season in front of us but he looked composed and he looked confident.” – Head Coach John Madden
- For the Monsters, it was a great feeling to finally pull out a win after a little bit without one. /

- Two of the three Monsters’ goals tonight were shorthanded goals. They were both scored by the Broadhurst brothers. Madden being Madden made sure to ignite the sibling rivalry between the two tonight. /

Tuesday, February 13th the Monsters play at the Rockford IceHogs at 8pm est. They then travel to Rosemont to take on the Chicago Wolves at 8pm est on Thursday, February 15th.
