Goal Recap

The first period came and went without a score. Both the Monsters and the Admirals fired off an array of shots during the first. Luckily for the goalies, both teams struggled with accuracy.

The Monsters dominated the second period scoring three unanswered goals.

The first came a little over three minutes into the second period after Akim Aliu fired a shot in off the post.

Ten minutes later, John Ramage found an open Brett Gallant who launched the puck behind Jonas Gunnarsson.

After a beautiful set up by Alex Petan and Kyle Thomas, Miles Koules scored the Monsters third goal of the game with four and half minutes left in the period.

The Monsters started things off with a bang in the third period. A minute into the period, Milano fired a shot towards the net but Gunnarsson blocked the shot. Ramage scooped up the rebound and fired the puck into the net.

Things went a little south for the Monsters two minutes into the third period. The Admirals were able to put themselves within one goal after scoring three consecutive goals. Frederick Gaudreau, Pontus Aberg, and Petter Granberg were the Admirals’ goal scorers.

With five seconds left in the game, Sonny Milano scored an empty netter to give the Monsters the 5-3 win.

But Wait! There’s More

Quick Thoughts

  • The fourth line of Joe Devin,  Brett Gallant, and Akim Aliu was the best line on the ice today.  They provided two goals, multiple assists, and created play after play. The fourth line has been the most consistent of the lines in the past month.
  • Anton Forsberg stood on his head during the first period. He faced nine shots on goal, seven of which shouldn’t have happened.
  • Giving up three goals in the third period is not a good look for the Monsters. They got too comfortable and couldn’t contend when the Admirals gained momentum.
  • Brett Gallant played one the best games of his career today. He created the play which led to the first goal of the game for the Monsters. His fight in the third period changed the momentum back to the Monsters favor. Taking the wind out of the Admirals’ sails saved the Monsters from an embarrassing comeback loss.    /
