Monsters games are like a box of chocolates. You never know what team is going to show up on the ice.
Friday night, the Monsters came out guns blazing. They looked supreme, cream of the crop. They were the team everyone has longed to see this season. The team which took the ice on Friday was one cohesive unit. Missed passes were pretty much non existent and communication was at an all time high.
Sunday afternoon was a much different story. The team that stepped on the ice was the worst product we have seen all season.
“I didn’t think we played at all. It was the worst game of the year. No interest of being on the ice.” – Head Coach John Madden
There were an abundance of fumbled passes and countless whiffs. Communication between linemates was at an all time low. Players were bumping into each other. Even Kivlenieks, who is normally a bright spot during rough games, was having an off night. He lost sight of the puck multiple times and just couldn’t close up his holes.
Sunday was a bit of a mess.
There are three games left and the Monsters need to make the most of them.
Goal Recap
The San Antonio Rampage were on the board first with 5:20 left to play in the first period. Paul Bittner turned the puck over in the offensive zone and Andrew Agozzino took off down the ice with it.
Two minutes later, Brady Austin launched the puck with meaning from the left faceoff circle to tie the game at one.
Forty four seconds into the second period, the Rampage snatched the lead back from the Monsters.
A pass intended for Garret Cockerill ended up on Travis Barron’s stick. He took of down the ice with the ice with Cockerill in tow. Barron passed the puck to Agozzino who then launched it into the back of the net.
The Monsters were able to tie the game back up with 6:30 left in the second period. Grant Besse passed the puck from below the blue line to Jefferson Dahl who was open in front of the net. Dahl fired the shot through Werner’s five-hole.
With 1:13 left in the second period, the Rampage took the 3-2 lead of the Monsters.
Samuel Blais dangled around Justin Scott, Jacob Graves, and Brady Austin before pushing the puck into the net from the top of the crease
Calvin Thurkauf tied things up for the Monsters 43 seconds into the third period. He picked up a loose puck along the boards and took off down the ice towards the net. No one could catch up to him before Thurkauf squeaked the puck into the net.
With 36 seconds left in the game, the Rampage took the 4-3 lead. Ryan Graves launched a rocket from the top of the left faceoff circle which sailed into the net.

Cameron Gaunce and Justin Scott wore the “A” on their sweater tonight. With Jordan Schroeder out of the lineup tonighy, Terry Broadhurst returned to wear the “A”.
What’s Next
The Monsters have have a few days off before taking on the Manitoba Moose on Thursday, April 12th and Friday, April 13th.
