Recap: Monsters fall to the Senators, 3-1

Cleveland Monsters (1) at Belleville Senators (3)

Tonight, was a big game for the Cleveland Monsters. A win over the Belleville Senators would have placed five points between them in the standings.

The Monsters started the first 5:30 of the game on a high note. They had an abundance of close calls and attacked the net like mad men.

Despite the hard work by the Monsters, the Senators were the first to end up on the board 6:38 into the first. Vitaly Abramov went right to left before firing the puck into the net to give the Senators the 1-0 lead over the Monsters.

Forty-four seconds later, a huge scramble broke out in front of the net which allowed Logan Brown to pop the puck into the net. Brad Thiessen was not ready for that one at all.

Zac Dalpe started the second out on the right foot scoring a much-needed power play goal 1:05 into the period.

For the rest of the period, the Monsters and Senators took turns storming each other’s nets.

There wouldn’t be another goal scored until there was 4:51 left in the game. A three-on-one rush allowed Christian Wolanin to extend the Senators lead over the Monsters to 3-1.

The Monsters kicked it into high gear for the rest of the game. Unfortunately, Marcus Hogberg was no match for them foiling every shot attempt which came his way.

In the end, the Monsters lost to the Senators, 3-1.

This loss put the Monsters and Senators within one point of each other on the leader board. Luckily, the Monsters are the ones with the upper hand as they have one more point than the Senators and a game in hand.

There is still hope for a post season berth. It’s just going to be a lot tougher going forward.
