QuickCap Game #6: Atkinson, Third Period Flurry Lead Blue Jackets Past Flyers, 6-3

The Columbus Blue Jackets ??? the Philadelphia Flyers this evening.

First Period

It was a sloppy start for the Jackets, which you’d have expected after having close to a week off. They passed an early penalty kill test around five minutes into the period, thanks in large part to a very good Sergei Bobrovsky who did his part in keeping the Jackets in the game early.

However, it was the Flyers who struck first on a tip-in by Travis Konecny right in front. Right place, right time, bad luck for Blue Jackets.

But, it wasn’t 1-0 for long, as Anthony Duclair scored the goal of the year to tie it.

However, the period ended on a low note for the Jackets, who surrendered yet another goal in the final minute of the period, their sixth in three games.

These have to stop.

Second Period

The second period was much, much better, as the Jackets truck thrice.

The first two goals came off the stick of Cam Atkinson, the first of which came 94 seconds into the frame.

Atkinson netted his second on a breakaway opportunity just over three minutes later.

Then the Captain did his thing from the blueline.

Lot to like in that period.

Third Period

The Flyers opened the scoring a minute into the final period,

To make it 4-3, but it would be all Blue Jackets from there, with goals from Josh Anderson,

And the exclamation point from Sonny Milano.

Jackets win, 6-3. Party time in the capital city.
