The Columbus Blue Jackets collected their first loss of the year in a 3-1 defeat to the Carolina Hurricanes.
First Period
Carolina scored the game’s first goal off a neutral zone turnover when Andrei Svechnikov poked the puck off the stick of Artemi Panarin, feeding it to Jordan Martinook for a glove-side upper-90 goal on the first shot of the game.

Columbus answered later in the period on a Brandon Dubisnky putback through the five hole of old friend Curtis McElhinney off an errant shot from David Savard.

Second Period
Carolina netted the only goal of the frame off a face off when the Jackets were unable to clear the puck around the boards and Sebastian Aho found himself in the slot and put it home.

The Jackets put a ton of pressure on McElhinney in the period, outshooting the Canes 11-8, but Mac stood on his head and allowed nothing past him.
Third Period
The Canes took a 3-1 lead with 14:30 to play after Aho found Michael Ferland all alone in the slot.

The rest of the third period was…uneventful really. The Jackets continued to show pressure a times but not much.
Really, the final 20 was forgettable hockey.
Canes outshoot the Jackets, 35-32, CBJ wins 54% of faceoffs and go 0-for-3 on the power play.
