QuickCap #39: Blue Jackets Blast Senators 6-3
Blue Jackets get past Senators in New Year’s Eve showdown.
Happy New Year’s Eve everybody!
As you know, the Ottawa Senators came in to Nationwide Arena to face the Columbus Blue Jackets for a little New Year’s Eve bash.
Here’s how it went down.
Not much really happened in the first period, save for a bit of a light-hearted moment, once everything was okay.
That collision between Duclair and Werenski was probably the hardest hits of the year for each guy ... ouch.

Both appear to be fine.#CBJ
Anthony Duclair and Zach Werenski would be fine.
Everyone had a nice chuckle.
There were no first period goals as Columbus saw more of the high-danger action and scoring chances in the first period.
0-0 after one. #CBJ survived a late surge by the Sens.

There was also a little bit of the rough stuff that period.
1-1 after two periods.

In the final third period of play, Pierre-Luc Dubois put Columbus ahead 2-1 with a nice rebound tip-in off an initial shot by Seth Jones off the post.

Buuut then Bobby Ryan scored instantly, cutting the Sens’ deficit to 3-2. A Blue Jackets fourth goal, which would have been scored by Anthony Duclair, was waived off instantly due to potential goaltender interference as the defender pushed Duclair into Hogberg. The net also came off the moorings, nullifying the potential of challenging for goaltender interference since the net came off before the puck crossed the line.
This proved costly as Dzingel scored his second of the night, tying the game at 3-3.

With 2:01 left in the third, Atkinson found his second assist, dishing up a timely pass to Werenski in front for Zach’s second goal of the game. Dubois picked up his fourth point of the night, a career-high. Atkinson iced the game with the empty-net goal, his team-leading 24th goal of the season. And if that wasn’t enough, Anderson fired the up-ice shot for the second empty-net goal as the Jackets win 6-3.
