Quick Takes – Capitals Hold Off Jackets 3-2

If you watched the first and third periods, this was a hell of a game in Columbus this evening.

Unfortunately the second period also happened.

Washington scored three quick goals off three weak plays and miscues from the Blue Jackets, and though Jack Johnson and Kyle Quincey got on the board in the third period, the Jackets could not find an equalizer in the final minutes despite two near goal experiences, including what looked like Seth Jones shooting on a wide open net in the final seconds, but Braden Holtby was up to the challenge.

In so many ways this game looked like playoff hockey – and the Jackets don’t really seem like they’re ready for it.

The President’s Trophy is likely out of reach now. Home ice is a very open question.

The game against Pittsburgh on Tuesday is now extremely important.

How will the Blue Jackets respond?

I’m not sure anyone knows.
