The Cleveland Monsters are looking to spoil the Manitoba Moose's home opener tonight. They are currently last in the division while the Moose sit in the third spot. The Monsters are the only team in the league to not score a goal yet this season. However, the Monsters have only played one game. So, it's not the time to panic.
The last time the two teams met a brawl broke out between the Moose bench and the Monsters players on the ice. Two people were given the boot and 81 minutes worth of penalties were handed out.
Darren Kramer, the player who started the brawl, will be serving the rest of his three-game suspension from last season tonight. The Monsters won't have to worry about his aggressive tactics until Sunday.
Jordan Schroeder is with the Monsters on a conditioning loan from the Blue Jackets right now. The veteran center will be a nice addition to the roster as many younger players will be able to learn from him. The only downside is Schroeder has been hurt and is getting re-acclimated to playing a full game of hockey.
The special teams need to tighten up for this game. If last season's series is any indication of what this season will bring, the special teams will see more ice time than usual. The Monsters' penalty kill has been fairly successful this season. They had a good penalty kill crew last year as well. On the other hand, the power play is lacking a bit. If the Monsters can find a way to convert power play shots into power play goals, they will be just fine tonight.
