Cleveland Monsters; 10-16-3-2-, 25 points, .403 win%, 7th Central, 15th West

vs

Rockford IceHogs; 18-15-1-1, 38 points, .543 win%, 5th Central, 10th West

The Cleveland Monsters and Rockford IceHogs play each other for the second time since 2018 started. The last time they met was January 2nd when the Monsters beat the IceHogs, 4-1. Both teams have played other teams since their last meeting. The Monsters fell to the Chicago Wolves, 5-3, on January 3rd. While the IceHogs fell to the defending Calder Cup champions, the Grand Rapids Griffins, last night.

Currently, on a four-game lose streak, the IceHogs are looking to get things cooking in 2018. After being beat two games in a row, they will likely come out guns blazing tonight.

Joonas Korpisalo will start in net tonight for the Monsters. The Columbus Blue Jackets sent him down to get some playing time in before Sunday’s game against the Florida Panthers where Korpisalo will likely ride the pine. If the IceHogs play a fast and furious game, Korpisalo will be on point. If the IceHogs decide to roll with their slowed down game, he will have a bit of a rough time in net. The quick game is where Korpisalo succeeds.

Zac Dalpe and Dean Kukan were also sent to the Monsters yesterday. The Monsters’ defense has been riding the struggle bus without Kukan. It will be nice having him back with his fellow blueliners. Look for Dalpe to center the Broadhurst brother again. If they can click in the first period, the Monsters should be good to go.
