St. Louis Blues (2-1-0)

Yesterday afternoon, the Blue Jackets gained a glorious victory over the Penguins with the score of 3-1. Glorious. Anyway, you can check out paledragon’s assessment of how each line worked out.

Now the team heads to St. Louis to take on last season’s Stanley Cup champs. The roster is a little bit thinner around the middle after several players were sent down to Cleveland. A few of the notable names (sorry, Elaine, I know they are all noteworthy) from the training camp battle perspective are Eric Robinson and Kole Sherwood. Not all of the Cleveland Monsters were returned to sender, but those that remain don’t appear to be challenging Emil Bemstrom for that last roster spot amongst the forwards. There’s time for that to change.

Player to Watch

It would be easy to just say Elvis Merzlikins again, but I’m going to have to throw a twister at my fellow Cannonites. Three of the four players vying for the 6th defenseman spot will be playing against the Blues. Adam Clendening, Vladislav Gavrikov, and Dean Kukan should all be on the ice. This will be a good opportunity to see if any of them can create some separation.

The Other Bench

The Blues made their own roster trim and are down to 41 players (as of 10pm on Saturday) so we should expect to see quite a few high powered starters. Elvis and VV will get a good test again. No Tarasenko, though.
