Preseason Game #3 Recap: Blues shut out Monsters 3-0

The Columbus Blue Jackets took their show on the road for the first time in this preseason, as they visited the St. Louis Blues. This is the first of 3 games in 3 days, so most of the Jackets regulars were kept at home. This was largely a Cleveland Monsters lineup, and the Monsters coaching staff manned the bench.

The only Columbus regulars to play were Riley Nash, Sonny Milano, Lukas Sedlak, and Anthony Duclair on the forward side, David Savard on defense, and Sergei Bobrovsky in goal for his preseason debut.

Bob played for the first half of the game before being replaced by Brad Thiessen. Bob allowed 2 goals on 16 shots, both on power plays. Thiessen followed up his disastrous appearance in Game 1 with a perfect 10 saves on 10 shots in 27:24.

The Blues scored on two power plays in the first period, then added an empty net goal near the end of the game.

The time on ice leaders for the Jackets were:

Forwards

Sonny Milano (21:09)
Riley Nash (20:26)
Jonathan Davidsson (18:54)

Defense

David Savard (22:38)
Hott Scarrington (20:59)
Dean Kukan (20:48)

The shot leaders were Davidsson, Paul Bittner, and Gabriel Carlsson, with 3 each. Does that usage bode well for Davidsson’s chances of making the roster? That’s something worth monitoring as preseason continues.

The Blue Jackets are in action again on Saturday afternoon at Nationwide Arena against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Stay tuned to the Cannon all weekend for coverage of that game and Sunday afternoon’s rematch against the Blues.
