Columbus Blue Jackets (1-1-0-0)

vs

Pittsburgh Penguins (1-0-0-1)

The Columbus Blue Jackets and Pittsburgh Penguins last met on Thursday night. It didn’t end up so well for the Jackets as they lost 4-1. It definitely was not the best game. Key faceoff were lost, VV couldn’t close his five-hole fast enough, the defense was constantly caught watching the puck, and the forwards just couldn’t get the puck past Matt Murray, If Thursday’s game is indicative to how the Cleveland Monsters’ season is going to go, they are in for a bumpy start to the 2019-20 season.

You can read Thursday’s game coverage from elpalito here.

The vets are back in the lineup this afternoon with Joonas Korpisalo likely starting. Today’s game should have a different ending than Thursday.

Player to Watch

Kole Sherwood wants a spot on his hometown team more than words can describe. You can see the fire in his eyes when someone brings up making the roster in Columbus. The desire is there. Hopefully, Sherwood will be able to pull all the stops this afternoon.

Nathan Gerbe hasn’t played much since his season ending injury half way through last season. This will be the first time everyone will see what Gerbe brings to the table and if he’s back in peak Gerbe form. Plus, he’s really good at getting under other player’s skin. If the Jackets put Gerbe and Pierre-Luc Dubois on the ice at the same time, the Penguins will probably end up crying.

The Other Bench

After a standout performance in Thursday night’s game, the Pittsburgh Penguins decided  to lockdown Nathan Legare for the next three years.  Luckily, he’s sitting in the press box tonight.

This afternoon’s game will mostly feature players who are trying to make the team before being sent down to Wilkes-Barre or Wheeling for the season. The Jackets should expect the Penguins to throw everything they have at them. Especially, guys like Andrew Agozzino. The Former Cleveland Monster is the last person you want to get fired up. Once he starts scoring Agozzino doesn’t know how to stop.
