William Strömgren is a big bodied winger with deceptively good hands and surprisingly fast speed. However, the praises seem to stop there. He may show talent with the puck, but his positioning and play away from the puck reportedly leave a lot to be desired. Like most picks outside the first round, Strömgren is going to be a high risk pick. It’s hard to imagine the Blue Jackets using a pick on him, but he could get a second glance if he falls to the third round.

Scouting Reports

“Strömgren has quick hands that would typically warrant a first-round selection, but lacks many other elements of his game. He looks helpless without the puck on his stick and does not show strong decision making abilities. He’s certainly a risky pick with the number of improvements he needs to make but if a team can help him shape his game together, they will reap the benefits of his top-level stickhandling.” – Alexa Potack, Dobber Prospects

“For a big man the Swedish winger has soft, deceptive hands. Not only this, he has the confidence to use them. He can maneuver the puck in close to any way you can imagine, while in stride. As such, he is also able to use this ability to help unleash his high-end shot, manipulating defensemen to make them stand off, or re-positioning the puck from a bad pass at the last minute from heel to toe to pick a corner.” – Alex Appleyard, Smaht Scouting
