Monsters Mash: Another Weekend, Another Split

Record: 5-3-2-0, 12 points, .600 win%, 3rd Central, 7th West

This past weekend the Cleveland Monsters played the Tucson Roadrunners in a back-to-back series. Both games ended in overtime with the Monsters and Roadrunners splitting the weekend.

On Friday, Matiss Kivlenieks earned his first professional win in overtime. Carter Camper walked away with the overtime game-winning goal.

The Monsters would fall to the Roadrunners the next night. Miles Koules and Sam Vigneault scored the Monsters two goals of the night.

Player Awards

At the end of October, the AHL announced awards for CCM/AHL “Player of the Month”, “Rookie of the Month”, and “Goaltender of the Month”.

After starting out the season on a nine-game scoring streak, Andrew Mangiapane was named “Player of the Month”. Mangiapane currently leads the Stockton Heat in assists (10) and points (16).

Mike Vecchione was named “Rookie of the Month”. Over 10 games in October, Vecchione scored two goals and eight assists. He is currently tied with Phil Varone for a team high of 10 assists.

Thatcher Demko was awarded “Goaltender of the Month” after allowing only eight goals in his first five games this season. At the end of October, Demko had a record of 4-1-0. One of those wins was a shutout.

Mason Marhment of the Toronto Marlies was named “CCM/AHL Player of the Week”. In three games last week, Marchment scored seven points.

Story Lines

Thanks to Scott Wedgewood being sent to the Arizona Coyotes, Mackenzie Blackwood and Ken Appleby are fighting for the starter spot between the pipes for the Binghamton Senators. This isn’t the first time the two have gone toe-to-toe to decide who was the best.
