Jordan Schroeder Traded to Chicago Blackhawks

Yesterday, the Columbus Blue Jackets traded Jordan Schroeder (C) to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Jean-Francois Berube (G).

Schroeder came to the Jackets organization on June 23,2017 in a trade with the Minnesota Wild for prospect Dante Salituro. While his play was not the best in Columbus, Schroeder was a staple on the ice for the Cleveland Monsters where he often played on the first or second line. At the end of the season, he was sandwiched between the Broadhurst brothers on the leaderboard at second with 36 points in 48 games.

Berube was part of the goalie tandem for the Rockford IceHogs which included Anton Forsberg. In 15 games with the IceHogs, Berube had a record of 7-8-0 paired with two shutouts and a .920 save percentage. He faced the Monsters three times last season posting a record of 1-2-0-0. His one win against the Monsters was a shutout on October 6th, 2017.

With Joonas Korpisalo and Sergei Bobrovsky backstopping the Jackets, the addition of Berube doesn’t leave much room on the roster for goaltenders in Cleveland.

During Brad Thiessen’s injury, Matiss Kivlenieks filled the role of starting netminder quite well. It is believed Kivlenieks will be back in Cleveland at the start of the 2018-19 season.

This leaves Ivan Kulbakov and Jeff Zatkoff on the outside looking in.
