The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defender Tommy Cross to a one-year, two-way contract.
Cross was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the second round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. However, he did not sign a contract with the Bruins until April 11th, 2012. Since signing in 2012, Cross spent the bulk of his time playing in the AHL for the Providence Bruins scoring 134 points over the course of 364 games. The past three seasons the C has been emblazoned on his sweater.
Boston College was the home to Cross from 2008-2012 where he was a staple on the blue line. Over the course of 134 games at BC, he tallied 60 points in the form of 17 goals and 43 assists. At the start of Cross’ senior season, he was named captain of the squad.
Current Jackets’ forward, Cam Atkinson, played with Cross at BC from 2008-2011.
Cross will be a lovely addition to the dwindling defense pool in the Jackets organization. The veteran defender has an affinity for helping mold younger defenders into high caliber players.
