Jackets Draft Mike Reilly 98th Overall

The Jackets took a beanpole defenseman with their fourth round pick- Mike Reilly of Shattuck St.Mary’s prep school in Minnesota. He’s an offensive blueliner who’s committed to the University of Minnesota.

Some scouting reports:

Minnesota Hockey Prospects:

“Reilly has great offensive instincts, demonstrating nightly that he has a good deal of skills at his disposal. Has good puck control and reads the play in front of him extremely well, making him an ideal candidate to run the power-play. Is a smart player that is capable of making snap decisions in pressure situations. The skill is there with Reilly, the question is if he’s dynamic enough to compensate for his small stature. At just 150 lbs. Reilly is the smallest prospect that the state has to offer. The size issue may have NHL franchises proceeding with caution.”The Scouting Report:

“Reilly is an undersized defenseman who is going to need a few seasons to develop at Minnesota, but could be worth the wait for whatever NHL team selects him. Reilly has good speed and is able to advance the puck with a combination of vision and assertiveness with the puck. The principal concern for Reilly is adding strength to his frame, but he’ll have some time in the NCAA to worry about those issues.”Here’s Reilly’s NHL Draft Prospect Video:
