Jackets Agree To New Deals with Nick Holden & Jared Boll

Per Porty, the Blue Jackets have agreed on new deals with RFA Jared Boll and pending UFA D-man Nick Holden, signing Boll to a 2 year, $2.1 million dollar deal that will pay him $950k in the 2012-2013 season and $1.15 million the following year.

Holden’s contract has not been disclosed, but Portzline is reporting it is a one year, 2 way deal for the defensive prospect.

While a new deal for Boll has been expected, even though many fans are not sold on his value beyond purge pugnacious pugilism, it is a bit of a surprise to see him receive that much of a raise, given his lack of production and injury history this season.

Holden is another surprise, as most had expected the prospect d-man to walk in free agency after an injury plagued 2011-2012 campaign that saw him play just 25 games in Springfield.

If Holden can prove himself in camp, he has an outside shot to compete for the team’s 6/7 position, but his best bet at this point is to make a good showing in Springy and hope for a callup during the season.

Meanwhile, no movement on the Rick Nash front…don’t be surprised if a big piece or two has to land once free agency officially opens at noon tomorrow before we see anything else come to a head.
