Highlight Recap, Game #57: Jackets vs. Senators

I’ll be honest- I spent most of the day completely out of the loop with hockey news. David Savard returned to the lineup, starting next to Jack Johnson. Cody Goloubef was scratched as a result. Trade rumors (Cam Atkinson, Fedor Tyutin, and teams apparently calling about Brandon Dubinsky) apparently were floating around. It’s going to be a wild couple weeks until the trade deadline.

To the highlights!

FIRST PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS

Your CBJ starters: Scott Hartnell, Alexander Wennberg, Brandon Saad, Jack Johnson, David Savard, Joonas Korpisalo

Hey, they actually aired the national anthems on TV! I wish this happened more often.

David Savard got back into the action early, throwing a hit at 0:45.

Seth Jones saw a shot deflected high off the net.

At 7:19, the shots on goal were tied 2-2. Not much happening early.

Gregory Campbell saw a shot denied at 9:00.

Savard saw a shot deflected wide at 10:00.

Some slick passing through the neutral zone led to a Matt Calvert shot getting saved at 10:36.

Power play for the Senators. Kerby Rychel went off for hooking at 12:39.

BRANDON SAAD DENIED SHORTHANDED.

The Jackets killed the penalty in outstanding fashion.

The Blue Jackets deservedly led 1-0 at the end of the first period. The Blue Jackets had controlled the pace of play and dictated terms.

SECOND PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS

William Karlsson sent a shot just wide at 1:15.

Seth Jones and Curtis Lazar had an awkward collision into the boards at 3:10, and both were slow making their way back to their respective benches. Hopefully both are okay.

Jackets on the power play! Kyle Turris went off for high sticking Matt Calvert in the face at 4:15.

The Senators killed it, allowing just two shots.

Chris Neil limped off at 7:45 after being sandwiched between Dalton Prout and Fedor Tyutin.

RENE BOURQUE WITH A CHANCE. He had a GAPING net at 8:00 thanks to a Brandon Saad feed and shot it high and wide.

Boone Jenner has been everywhere tonight.

Following an awkward collision between Brandon Saad and Mark Borowiecki , Borowiecki’s head hit the dasher and he was face down on the ice. Borowiecki was able to stand up on his own and skated off with some help. Glad to see it wasn’t serious. That all happened at 10:50.

Korpisalo took a shot high in the neck area from Mike Hoffman and, without the plastic guard, it caught him in that area. He took several minutes to regain his composure, but was able to stay in at 14:00.

He immediately made a save on a Bobby Ryan shot.

CAMSANITY. Puppies, anyone? Cam Atkinson buried a one timer from Brandon Dubinsky at 14:47. Excellent work from Dubinsky below the goal line to set up the pass. Assists to Dubinsky and Seth Jones.

QUICK THOUGHTS

Boone Jenner was absolutely everywhere tonight.

Brandon Saad- 2 goals from his career high.

Joonas Korpisalo is so good. It cannot be overstated how well he has played since taking over after Sergei Bobrovsky’s recent injury.
