Highlight Recap, Game #56: Blue Jackets vs. Ducks

Some notes before the game: apparently David Clarkson is nowhere to be found, Joonas Korpisalo is starting (as well he should, he’s been the brightest spot on a team sincerely searching for bright spots this season), Nick Foligno moved to the third line and Kerby Rychel moved to the fourth line.

I apologize for the shortness of this recap, but I decided to buy tickets to this game last minute today, so I’m writing it from section 214. To the highlights!

FIRST PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS

Ryan Murray got signed to a 2 year bridge deal before the game. So that was cool.

Your CBJ starters: Joonas Korpisalo, Ryan Murray, Seth Jones, Scott Hartnell, Brandon Saad, Alexander Wennberg
Wennberg denied early and a quick whistle negates Hartnell putting the puck in the net at 0:14.
The play went to review and the play was upheld. Boo.
Jackets power play at 0:43. David Perron off for slashing.
The Ducks killed it.
Korpisalo saved a shot at 3:31.
Nick Foligno denied on the doorstep at 4:00
Ducks goal. At 4:47, a tic tac toe play put them up 1-0 on a shot from David Perron. Assists to Ryan Getzlaf and Chris Stewart.
Jackets power play. Ryan Kesler went off for elbowing at 6:00
The Ducks killed the second abysmal power play in a row.
Matt Calvert and Kerby Rychel denied on the doorstep.
Foligno and Gregory Campbell denied at 9:15
Ducks power play at 13:03. Dalton Prout went off for cross checking because he can’t control himself and had to chase a Duck down as he was leaving the ice. Please, Jarmo- get rid of him. I promise I won’t complain about Jared Boll next year.
Frederick Anderson ABSOLUTELY ROBS Boone Jenner at 16:01.
At the end of one, the Ducks led 1-0.
SECOND PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS

End to end action to start the second, but no real chances for either team.

Fedor Tyutin had a chance on a 2 on 1 and didn’t shoot at 2:15. Typical.

There was end to action for the first 7 minutes and there were pretty much no shots on goal. It was exciting and kept me from getting back to my seat. That’s what I get for talking to people that I know.

Someone, I think Saad, missed a glorious chance at 9:00

Ducks power play. Brandon Dubinsky went off for hooking at 9:36

Great work by Calvert.

The Jackets killed the penalty.

Andrew Cogliano got destroyed at 13:00 by Dalton Prout.

Save by Korpisalo following a turnover at 17:15

Ducks goal. At 19:48, the Ducks doubled their advantage following some poor defense. Mike Santorelli scored. Assists to Ryan Getzlaf and Hampus Lindholm.

BLUE JACKETS GOAL. William Karlsson pulled one back at 19:55. Assist to Nick Foligno.

Prout fought Christ Stewart at the end of the period.

THIRD PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS

Scott Hartnell started a scrum in front of the net at 0:41

Ducks goal. A sharp angle shot beat Korpisalo at 1:45. What a soft goal. Goal scored by Ryan Garbutt, assists to Jakob Silfverberg and Josh Manson

KNEEL BEFORE SAAD. Brandon Saad scored on a rebound at 6:03. Assists to Alexander Wennberg and Cody Goloubef

Jenner deflected a shot just wide at 7:45

We are horrendous in the defensive zone. Just so bad.

Jackets on the power play. Josh Manson went off for holding at 13:22.

Our power play is abysmal. We cannot skate the puck into the zone to save our lives.

Brandon Dubinsky ties the game at 14:57!! After a scramble in front of the net, Dubinsky potted the rebound. Assists to Nick Foligno and Seth Jones

Korpisalo made the save sans stick and set off a scrum at 15:27

Saad told Corey Perry to sit down at 17:00

The game went to OT tied at 3.

BONUS HOCKEY HIGHLIGHTS

Saad denied at 0:30

Scrum at 2:21 as Jack Johnson clears the crease

Jackets power play. Rickard Rackell went off for hooking at 3:42

Jackets timeout

FINAL, SHOOTOUT: Blue Jackets 4 Ducks 3

QUICK THOUGHTS

We did not fire the puck on net. Sure we had a lot of shots, but none of them were quality really.

Not the best outing for Korpisalo, who let in a couple softies tonight.

The Blue Jackets showed no life and no legs for most of tonight. It took too long to get going.

Saad is fun. I’m so happy to have him here.

Seth Jones is so good.

UP NEXT

The Blue Jackets remain at home on Saturday night as they take on the Ottawa Senators. Faceoff is at 7:00 EST.
