Don Waddell did a thing! Late last night, the Blue Jackets acquired Mason Marchment from the Seattle Kraken in exchange for a 2026 4th round pick and 2027 2nd round pick. This is by no means a cure-all, but he provides an upgrade in the middle six, and his assertive style should fit Dean Evason’s style. The coach confirmed today that Marchment will start on Adam Fantilli’s line, but further line combinations were not disclosed.
It may take a week or so to figure out how Marchment fits best, but at least this move was made early enough in the season that there is time. His contract expires in the summer, so there is also the option of flipping him at the deadline if things don’t work out here over the next 2-3 months.
Mason Marchment, acquired by CBJ, is a middle-six utility winger. Nose for the net, size, motor, and quick thinking with the puck are strengths. Speed, turnovers, and penalties are weaknesses. Wasn't a great fit in Seattle but he played his role very well for Dallas. #CBJpic.twitter.com/zDS7cglf4b
