Columbus Blue Jackets (7-7-1, 15 points, 8th Metro, 15th East)

at

Seattle Kraken (7-4-4, 18 points, 3rd Pacific, 6th West)

Previously

The Jackets took control in Edmonton in the second period to take a 3-1 lead, and even after Connor McDavid scored a goal that only he could early in the third, Adam Fantilli responded with a beauty of a goal assisted by Kirill Marchenko. Then McDavid did McDavid things again, and the Jackets did the unexcusable – but all too predictable – by giving up a shorthanded goal with 58 seconds left that tied up the game. With the man advantage and a lead, the name of the game is possession but they got too damn cute in the defensive zone, and the puck took an unlucky bounce off of Mathieu Olivier’s stick over the shoulder of Jet Greaves.

Then, to no one’s surprise, the Oilers completed the comeback in overtime with a game winning goal by Central Ohio native and former Blue Jacket Jack Roslovic.

This team has talent, and there are things they do well, but for whatever reason they just can’t put together a complete game consistently. The vibes seem off. I don’t know what it will take to shake that.

On the plus side, the Voronkov/Fantilli/Marchenko line is clicking, and Yegor Chinakhov had one of his best games of the season. His line with Coyle and Olivier won the possession battle, and Chinny was successfully winning puck battles himself.

Jackets Notes

Miles Wood and Cole Sillinger were scratches last night due to illness. It may be a gametime decision again as to whether they suit up tonight … Expect Elvis Merzlikins to get the start in net.
