Game Preview / GT 5 (X): Penguins at Blue Jackets

Sunday afternoons are a time of football, hot dogs, and realizing yes, you probably should have gone to church after what you did Saturday night.

Today, however, is special. This Sunday afternoon is a renewing of acquaintances, as the Blue Jackets welcome the Penguins to Columbus today at 4pm with something that looks, if not exactly like the opening day roster, a lot closer to an NHL squad.

Pittsburgh is putting more prospects on the ice, unsurprisingly, but their lineup promises enough veterans and familiar faces to keep things reasonably interesting.

Penguins Roster:

Forwards: Kevin Porter, Nick Bonino, Garrett Wilson, Soctt Wilson, Tom Sestito (hey, we know that guy!), Tom Kuhnhackl, Carter Rowney, Jean-Sebastien Dea, Josh Archibald, Dominik Simon, Jake Guentzel, Adam Krause

Defense: Chad Rhuwedel, Justin Schultz, Stuart Percy, Cameron Gaunce, Ethan Prow, Derrick Pouliot, Steve Oleksy

Goaltender: Tristan Jarry, Leland Irving

Blue Jackets Roster:

Forwards: Josh Anderson, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Matt Calvert, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Sam Gagner, Markus Hannikainen, Sonny Milano, Aaron Palushaj, Brandon Saad, Jarret Stoll, Alexander Wennberg, Daniel Zaar.

Defense: Marc-Andre Bergeron, Scott Harrington, Seth Jones, Dean Kukan, Markus Nutivaara, Dalton Prout.

Goaltender: Sergei Bobrovsky, Anton Forsberg

Sadly, we will not get to watch a touching, heartfelt reunion on the ice between Brandon Dubinsky and Sidney Crosby after their World Cup of Hockey experiences, but Sergei Bobrovsky’s preseason NHL debut will be worth the price of admission for a lot of folks today.

If Bob can keep performing at the level he demonstrated during the World Cup, this should be quite a show, and the promise of seeing Sonny Milano, PLD, and BJORKSTRAND! up front is quite enticing. I have a feeling that if Torts decides to throw them over the boards as a line, it’s going to be “lit”, as the kids say today.

This afternoon’s game will be on the Blue Jackets radio network via 1460AM here in Columbus, and will also be streamed on the bluejackets.com website and through the CBJ mobile app.

Here we go!
