After a long wait, today is finally the day! The Blue Jackets and Red Wings will face off outdoors at the historic Horseshoe at Ohio State. It’s not just a spectacle because of the venue; there are two huge points at stake for these teams which are tied in the standings and trying to secure their hold on a playoff spot.

Player to Watch

There are so many interesting players and storylines here. There are the Michigan alumni on both sides. There are longtime besties Zach Werenski and Dylan Larkin playing against each other, each coming off of successful performances for Team USA in the 4 Nations Face-off. There are the young stars for Columbus, including Adam Fantilli, Kirill Marchenko, and Kent Johnson. Finally, will one of the goalies step up and steal this game? Elvis Merzlikins is a big personality who should love the opportunity to play in such a big spotlight. On the other side, Cam Talbot did well on Thursday despite facing a barrage of high danger shots from the Jackets. Can he do it again?

Jackets Notes

Unfortunately Cole Sillinger is unavailable tonight after suffering an injury in Detroit on Thursday … Mikael Pyyhtia was recalled from Cleveland to take his place … Injured skaters Sean Monahan, Yegor Chinakhov, and Erik Gubranson all skated at practice yesterday. None are ready to play yet but hopefully this is a good sign that they’re all getting close.
