Game 80: Three to go

The Jackets take to the ice at the American Airlines Center in Dallas tonight with nothing to lose. Conversely, at Game 80 and having already missed the playoffs, it could also be argued that there is nothing to prove either. The Dallas Stars remain hopeful of bringing playoff hockey to The Big D. These Stars need to align with their celestial counterparts, perhaps with a bit of luck sprinkled in if they are to make the big dance.

If the Jackets intend to play the role of spoiler tonight, they need to overcome one of their most lethargic efforts of the season, a 6-1 home ice drubbing by the St. Louis Blues. R.J. Umberger, who potted the only goal of the game for Columbus commented, “We just looked like we had nothing in the tank.” An understatement for sure.

Somebody that the Jackets will need to monitor to keep this one close is Jamie Benn. Benn has points in four of his past five games.

Another interesting item is that Columbus has never in their existence, finished a season with a winning record within the Central Division. Sad to say, but it won’t happen this season either as the Jackets are 8-10-5 within their division, with only a game against Nashville to go.

I just had a 5 hour energy. I’m ready. Hopefully the Jackets are too!
