Game #57 Preview: Blue Jackets visit the Windy City

Saturday, February 16 – 8:30 EST
United Center, Chicago, Illinois
TV: Fox Sports Ohio; Radio: 97.1 FM
Opponent’s Blog: Second City Hockey

Columbus Blue Jackets (32-21-3, 67 points, 3rd Metro, 6th East)

at

Chicago Blackhawks (24-25-9, 57 points, 7th Central, 11th West)

The Union Blue started the week with a 3-0 win over the Capitals, then suffered a 0-3 loss to the Islanders. Will they split the difference tonight with a 1.5-1.5 tie?

Player to Watch

Kole Sherwood

Sherwood was announced as an emergency call-up yesterday. He was called up once before this season, but was a healthy scratch. When he plays tonight, he will become the first Central Ohioan to play in a regular season game for the Blue Jackets. We’ve already seen Columbus products thrive elsewhere in the league, including Connor Murphy (also playing tonight!), Sean Kuraly, Jack Roslovic, and now Kole’s brother Keifer. This is a special moment for Columbus hockey, and a dream come true for Kole. After a rough start to his season, he’s been on fire lately for the Cleveland Monsters, including a 2 goal game on Tuesday.

Jackets Notes

Lots of injury news: Brandon Dubinsky was put on the injured reserve list. He has missed the last four games with a hip injury. Boone Jenner is banged up and will not play, nor will Markus Hannikainen who is sick … This weekend features the first Mothers’ Trip in team history, joining the annual Fathers’ Trip tradition.

The Other Bench

Patrick Kane has a 16 game goal streak. Guess he wasn’t completely reliant on Artemi Panarin to be successful … Thursday featured the second St. Valentine’s Day Massacre in Chicago history, as the Hawks scored five unanswered goals in a 5-2 victory over New Jersey. Cam Ward had 41 saves. Our old buddies Artem Anisimov and Brandon Saad had goals … Dominik Kahun is the last remaining player in the league this season to have played in every game without committing a penalty … Chris Kunitz has hit the 1000 game mark. That’s nice, but he is a former Penguin so we hate him.
