Game 55 Open Thread: The Return Of The Swede

Well, it’s official – the Avalanche will dress veteran forward Peter Forsberg, starting his (third? fourth?) NHL comeback here in Columbus against the Jackets.

On the one hand, it’s a shame that they’re not talking about the way Derick Brassard has been lighting up the score sheet lately, including a new personal best for scoring in the season. We’re not hearing about how Grant Clitsome remains hot, or how R.J. Umberger is also on a pace for a new career high as the team works to scrap their way towards the deadline.

No, it’s all about Foppa, a 37 year old who hasn’t played pro hockey in over a year, and the eyes of the hockey world will be focused firmly on the visitor’s bench tonight. But that’s OK. There’s no such thing as bad publicity, they say, and with any luck,  the Jackets can use this chance to steal the spotlight back with a strong performance tonight.

I’ll be down at the arena volunteering with the Jacket Backers (come say hi!), Mike’s rolling through the wilds of Halifax on a quest for a better PPQB, and Lou will be around to keep an eye on you guys.

Meanwhile, I leave you in the tender hands of MC Frontalot.

Go Jackets!
