Columbus Blue Jackets (15-15-6, 36 points, 5th Metro, 10th East)

at

Boston Bruins (19-14-4, 42 points, 3rd Atlantic, 6th East)

Last time the Blue Jackets were in Boston, they got a coach fired. Surely that can’t happen again? A win in Boston would give Columbus the season series sweep.

Player to Watch

Zach Werenski

Zach continues to build his candidacy as a Norris trophy finalist. With seven assists in his last two games, he’s one of three defensemen currently scoring above a point per game in the NHL. Usually guys seem to need a playoff run to get real Norris consideration, but Zach is certainly one of the clear cut 3 finalists if that award was voted on today.

Jackets Notes

I’m not sure we will get many updates prior to puck drop with both teams traveling last night. We’ll keep an eye on the starting goalie and if the team stays with the 11F/7D configuration.

The real question is can the Jackets put together a strong road performance. Despite being 15-15-6 on the year, only 4 of those wins are outside the confines of Nationwide. The Jackets have scored more goals at home than anyone else in the NHL, but have given up the second most against on the road.

The Other Bench

Jeremy Swayman will get the start tonight and should present a stiffer challenge in net for this Jackets squad. Although, it must be said that his numbers this season are nowhere near the highs he’s had in recent seasons. Some may blame the prolonged contract holdout, but I think the Boston D structure just simply isn’t as good this year.
