Tonight’s game figures to be full of emotions. For one reason, these teams faced off just 5 days ago, in a 5-2 Blue Jackets win that featured 11 penalties and 3 fights (plus two other roughing minors). More importantly, this is a game where the Flame will once again be honoring the memory of Johnny Gaudreau. The Gaudreau family has traveled to Calgary for this occasion.
In the days after the Gaudreau Brothers’ deaths, Calgary fans left a massive memorial on the steps of the Saddledome, including hundreds of hockey sticks. Those sticks were repurposed into benches to be donated to local hockey arenas. The Gaudreaus were there for the first dedication yesterday.
As he did in Philadelphia and Columbus, Guy Gaudreau joined the Flames for practice on Monday. I enjoyed this video of the equipment manager talking about Johnny, and how he saved a stick that Guy was able to use.
