Zach Werenski
Werenski has been the one reliable presence on the back end this year, putting up four goals and nine assists so far, including a goal and three assists in the past four games. He looks like vintage Z out there, and that needs to stay the case for the Jackets to win tonight.

We lost. That’s suboptimal. … Kent Johnson is expected to return from injury at some point this week, potentially including tonight. … Defensive prospect Denton Mateychuck has been tearing up the AHL, putting up 16 points in 15 games, including OT game winners in back to back games against Boston’s affiliate, the Providence Bruins.
The Other Bench
The Bruins are once again somehow not bad despite having no center depth, to the chagrin of everyone not from New England. … The Big Guns of David Pastrnak (8-9-17) and Brad Marchand (5-8-13) have been delivering. … Goalie Jeremy Swayman has been struggling, however. After RFA negotiations ate away his entire preseason, and then he’s put up an .888 save percentage and 3.35 GAA to date. Or as professionals call them “Blue Jackets numbers.”
