Filatov sent down to Springfield

In a move that likely would have been made sooner if not for past history, the Jackets have sent Nikita Filatov to the Springfield Falcons of the AHL.

I mention past history because last season Filatov refused a demotion to the American league, and got permission from GM Scott Howson to return to Russia for the remainder of the season. Aaron Portzline of the Columbus DIspatch has the following to say:

Filatov’s U.S. agent, Don Meehan, told The Dispatch that Filatov will report to Springfield and play for the Falcons. He would not make any further comment.

At least so far this means that Filatov is playing ball. He knows he is struggling, and as many players have done in the past, he will go down to the “A”, play on a scoring line and regain his confidence.

At least that’s the plan.

He could get off to a slow start in Springfield, and become disenchanted. He could become convinced that he would perform better with another organization. These are all worst case scenarios, but nonetheless need to be discussed.

On the other hand, he could light it up down there. There are talented guys in place with the Falcons that he could click with, which would lead to him putting up point totals that match his talent. I think most fans of the CBJ want this to be the case.

The Jackets as a team need to play better, and if they can put together another string of wins, and in the meantime Filly puts up points in Springfield, maybe he and the team can reunite for a second-half run to the postseason.

Thoughts on the move?

I like it, he was struggling and the time in the AHL will be good for him. 71
I like it, but I am worried he will bolt for Russia. 31
I don’t like it, he should stay with the Jackets. 12
