Falcons Weekly Recap: Week 4
The week's on ice action started on Wednesday October 26th in Manchester, NH when the Falcons earned their two points by defeating the Monarchs, 2-1.
On Wednesday, Dane Byers took to the ice wearing the captain's "C" for the Falcons. Byers previously was the captain of the Hartford Wolfpack (now the Connecticut Whale). Martin St. Pierre and Adam Mair are the alternate captains.
Thursday saw the Jackets take Teddy Ruth off of injured reserve and assign him to the Falcons. Ruth suffered a sprained right knee during the preseason.
Friday morning saw Bruce Landon's blog making its weekly appearance. This week, Bruce talks about all the variables that go into the making of the AHL schedule.

More after the jump:
The Hershey Bears paid their only visit of the season to Springfield on Friday. The visitors built a 3-0 lead, but the Falcons were able to capitalize with three power play goals to send the game to overtime.
Ryan Russellblasted home the game winner, as the Falcons came all the way back for a 4-3 OT victory.
The next night, the St. John's IceCaps made their first visit ever to The Nest. The IceCaps have gotten off to a hot start, and currently sit atop the AHL's Atlantic Division.
This was another exciting, back and forth game that went to overtime.
netted the game winner for the Falcons 4-3 victory, bringing the Birds to 3-0 for the week.
Other player movements this week:
The Falcons signed defenseman
to a PTO on Tuesday. Campbell didn't dress for any games during the week.
Defenseman
went from the
Blue Jacketsto the Falcons to the Blue Jackets and back to the Falcons midweek. Savard joined the lineup for the Manchester game, before rejoining his NHL teammates for a game against the
Buffalo Sabres.
After the Buffalo game, Savard and
were both assigned to Springfield. Recalled to Columbus was
Matt Calvert.
Mayorov was promptly banged up in the St. John's game, injuring a shoulder. He will be out of the lineup for Friday's game against Adirondack.
Also,
appears to have aggravated his previous injury and he too may be out of the lineup on Friday.
Also during the week, a new tradition has started for the Falcons. From Nick Holden, the most recent recipient of the players' award:
"We were in Manchester the other night, and one of their guys came in and was like, 'You guys must have left this here last time. We just decided it was going to be our 'hard hat' for the year."
A brief video of Nick, wearing the hat after Saturday night's win is on the MassLive website.
The Falcons have just one game this week, with the Adirondack Phantoms coming to Springfield on Friday night for a 7:30 faceoff. This is the third game of a six game homestand for the Falcons.
I'll have the updated player stats in next week's recap, available here at The Cannon on Monday.
Unless the power goes out again.
